The Customer's Experience on Using Android, Blackberry and Apple (2008-2012)

This time I had an interview with my friend, Rachma. She's using three types of mobile phones at the same time. 1 from Blackberry, 1 from Apple and 1 from Samsung. Yes, the three top mobile phones company at this era.

Firstly, she is sharing the disadvantages & advantages of using Blackberry. She is using Blackberry Curve 8520 at the moment. I put in the picture on the left hand corner for you to see.

Q: What do you feel is the advantage of using Blackberry?

A: The Advantages of using Blackberry are the amazing features provided by Blackberry Messenger (BBM), it allows easy access of communication between people across borders. Since my parents live overseas, it is easier for me to communicate with them using BBM. BBM provide instant reply that makes communication much more easier. It also provide me an easy access towards my email, as it synchronize my mail and chat engines every second.

Q: What is the disadvantage of Blackberry?

A: I feel that Blackberry systems are lacking behind, comparing it towards Apple and Android. The Blackberry World, which is the place to download applications are a bit slow when downloading applications. Blackberry also frequently slows down when you have added too much BBM contacts.

Secondly, she is sharing the disadvantages & advantages of using iPhone. She is using iPhone 3Gs at the moment. I put in the picture on the left hand corner for you to see.

Q: What do you feel is the advantage of using iPhone?

A: I used iPhone on 2009, when I see lots of people in Australia had started to use iPhone. I used iPhone because of iTunes, making it really easier for listening to songs. It works on both ways for me, like and iPod + a phone. Its easier for me to zoom through files and the quality of the pictures still looks great. It also was a tools for me to play games, before Samsung S3 came out.

Q: What is the disadvantage of iPhone?

A: 1 feature that i dislike of iPhone is the push notifications. It seems that its lagging behind in terms of receiving chats, updates as well as email. I have to wait for 15 minutes at least, for it to synchronize and for me to receive my emails. I also dislike how most of the apps such as whatsapp requires me to pay, while its made for free in Samsung and Blackberry.

The third and last one,  she is sharing the disadvantages & advantages of using Samsung . She is using Samsung Galaxy S3 at the moment. I put in the picture on the left hand corner for you to see.

 Q: What do you feel is the advantage of using Samsung?

A: I feel like Samsung is the best thing ever. I fell in love with the 8 Megapixels camera it provides, it was much more cleaner and clearer. I love the free apps that Samsung gives, as I feel it was quite generous. I like Samsung Notes where I could scribble on my handwriting when i feel lazy on using keypad. 

Q: What is the disadvantage of using Samsung?

A: I just had one disadvantages, its that on campus when i enter certain area without signals, it continues to display signs that i don't have signals, even if i already move to other area that have signals. When that happen, i have to restart it all them time. And i thing that is the most annoying disadvantages of  my Samsung phone.

Alright guys, that's it.. I try to provide real customer's experience so that hopefully you will gain a useful insight from this experience. Sorry that i keep it short, as i was doing it at my business law lectures.

From Infrared to...... Camera, Bluetooth & 3G? (2000-2004)

The pictures on the left hand side, show you the ranging models of mobile phones from the year 1999 to 2004.

What i would like to emphasize is that, the comparison of my personal experience with using both of the phones in the 1999 era, and the one in 2004.

You see the mobile phones on the top 2nd to right, yes the red one. Its from Nokia the series of 8210. I remember using it on my primary school era, enjoying the ever so famous snake games!

The only mode of transferring data such as phone numbers, or business cards were only through infrared. and sometimes.... it didn't work, or take such a long time to send. And it only allows you to store 200 contacts only.

Another phones that I will talk about is the phone on the bottom left, it's from Nokia 6630 series. It has much advancement than the 8210 series. It allows you to send files through both Bluetooth and infrared, as well as allowing media card system for you to easily save media files on your media card. It also have camera features, which are hugely famous around 2004 to 2006. It also contains 3G system which is still quite rare to use on that time, but are hugely famous around this days.

Top 5 Countries Cell Phone Usage (2012)

In this 5 top countries with huge numbers of population, we could see some interesting figures of mobile phone users. Take United States for an example, with 310 million populations, it accounts for 327 million cell phones users. That stated the facts that estimate 1 person in United States are carrying 2 cell phones, or more.

 I read an article recently from China Daily, and it stated that according to Analysys International, a Beijing based research company, the number of cell phone users in China are subjected to increase by 1.1 billion at the end of this year. With China being the number 1 world's biggest population, they will play a big impact in increasing numbers of world's cell phone users. Currently depending on the latest results in June 2012, showing the total number of cell phone users in China is 1.05 billion.

 In a while, I'm sure we'll be able to witness another growing population of cell phone users in China!

The most significant phones

1994 - Nokia 2110
The Nokia 2110 is the unsung hero of mobile phone history. It was the smallest, lightest GSM phone around and packed with useful features. The Nokia 2110 became the definitive business phone of the mid 90s.

1998 - Nokia 5110

The Nokia 5110 turned communication into fashion. With customisable fascias and text messaging, this phone transformed mobiles from dull business tools to fashion accessories.

     

1992 - first consumer phones

The first consumers were interested in easy to use phones for emergency calls only. The Personal Phone was Motorola's first UK consumer phone.

1993 - the first One2One phones

With the promise of free evening and weekend calls, Mercury targeted consumers with the M200 and M300 phones.

1999 - world's first internet phone

In February 1999 Nokia announced the world's first phone with a WAP(wireless application protocol) browser. Making it the first phone capable of browsing the internet. Not only that, it had the ultra cool Matrix inspired sliding case, making it instantly the most desirable handset. 

Smallest and lightest mobile phones

1993 - Sony CMH-333 - 235g

Sony miniaturised the transistor radio in the 60s and the Walkman in the 80s. They gave mobile phones the same treatment in the 90s.

1994 - Nokia 2110 - 235g

The Nokia 2110 was the smallest, lightest GSM phone around when it was launched in January 1994. 

1998 - Motorola v3688 - 83g

Motorola did it again with the v3688, smaller and lighter than even the StarTAC, it was immediately adopted by the rich and famous. 

1999 - Nokia 8210 - 79g

Nokia's smallest and lightest phone. When Nokia launched it at the Paris Fashion Show in 1999 it became the most desirable consumer phone on the planet.

Phones from 90s are hard to use.

Nowadays, people put their phones in their pockets and use them whenever they want to use. It only takes them few seconds to make a phone call. However, back to 90s, the phones are very big, such as Motorola, people used to carry in pocket. There is a video below, and apparently they're hard to use.

New technology is always expensive, manufacturers need to recoup years' worth of research costs. Back in the 80s, you would have to spend £3000 to get world's first hand portable phone, the Motorola 8000X. As the technology moved on, and more competitors entered this new market, dealers had to cut prices in order to have more market share. In 1990, the price of NEC P3 was £1499, which was half price of the phone at 80s. In late 90s, the prices had dropped significantly, from £1499 to £500.

Here is the development of the mobile phone, since 90s, phones are getting smaller, thinner and cheaper.

Dominance of 1G cellular - Motorola

In the cellular world throughout 1980s, Motorola had been dominating the industry despite the significant challenges made by Nokia, Excel phones, NEC and so on. Motorola's production and sales during that time had accounted for more than half of the cell phone market share. The dominance of mobile phone industry was majorly contributed by the company's good reputation by numerous big inventions of mostly communication devices since 1940s. Most of the inventions were acclaimed as significant contributions to the world and some of them were even described as remarkable events of human taking great leap forward. Motorola developed the first Walkie-talkie in the world in 1940 and later designated as the producer of hand-held  AM-SCR-536 radios for U.S military in WWII which was vital for Allied communication. The company also began making television in 1950.  In 1960, it introduced the world's first "large-screen" (19-inch), transistorized, cordless portable television. In 1963 it, introduced the world's first truly rectangular color TV. Since 1958, Motorola was the primary provider of communication equipments for NASA space ships for decades. In 1969, it was this year Neil Armstrong made the first ever human landing on moon and spoke the famous words "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" from the Moon on a Motorola transceiver. As we can see that Motorola created numerous products for use by general public, businesses and government and every innovation made significant contributions to the communication industry which became essential use for mankind. Hence, these efforts assisted Motorola to claim the top spot in communication world.
