The most significant phones

1994 - Nokia 2110
The Nokia 2110 is the unsung hero of mobile phone history. It was the smallest, lightest GSM phone around and packed with useful features. The Nokia 2110 became the definitive business phone of the mid 90s.

1998 - Nokia 5110
The Nokia 5110 turned communication into fashion. With customisable fascias and text messaging, this phone transformed mobiles from dull business tools to fashion accessories.

     

1992 - first consumer phones
The first consumers were interested in easy to use phones for emergency calls only. The Personal Phone was Motorola's first UK consumer phone.

1993 - the first One2One phones

With the promise of free evening and weekend calls, Mercury targeted consumers with the M200 and M300 phones.

1999 - world's first internet phone

In February 1999 Nokia announced the world's first phone with a WAP(wireless application protocol) browser. Making it the first phone capable of browsing the internet. Not only that, it had the ultra cool Matrix inspired sliding case, making it instantly the most desirable handset. 

Smallest and lightest mobile phones

1993 - Sony CMH-333 - 235g

Sony miniaturised the transistor radio in the 60s and the Walkman in the 80s. They gave mobile phones the same treatment in the 90s.



1994 - Nokia 2110 - 235g

The Nokia 2110 was the smallest, lightest GSM phone around when it was launched in January 1994. 

1998 - Motorola v3688 - 83g

Motorola did it again with the v3688, smaller and lighter than even the StarTAC, it was immediately adopted by the rich and famous. 

1999 - Nokia 8210 - 79g

Nokia's smallest and lightest phone. When Nokia launched it at the Paris Fashion Show in 1999 it became the most desirable consumer phone on the planet.
